It’s a Snow Day!

1 Feb

No, not really. The Bay Area isn’t really known for snow, remember? While I 100%, completely appreciate the lack of snow shoveling, parkas and wind chills, there is one thing I miss about Missouri winters – snow days.

Completely unlike any other day, a snow day is a little gift from above. There is no planning for one, which means there’s no way you can schedule it to the hilt. You can’t run errands, meet up with friends or go for a run. All you can do is, well, snuggle in.

And with “Snow-magedden,” or the “Blizzapocolypse,” or whatever is rolling through the Midwest today, I’ve been dreaming of an unexpected snow day, and all the wonderful things I might do with a day off.

So, without further ado, here’s my top 10 snow day activities:

1. Staying in your pajamas for as long as possible.

2. Board Games. As many of them as I can stand.

3. A fire – no matter how long it takes

4. A good book: my current good read? The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

5. Snuggling with these two.

6. Watching a movie marathon, of undetermined theme. Could be Harry Potter. Could be Dirty Harry. Maybe even something redeeming, like the Academy Awards nominees. Either way, it will probably be via Netflix Watch Instantly. I dream of the day I can watch my whole instant queue.

OK, let’s take a break. I always say I’m going to kick back the whole day, but . . . usually doesn’t happen. So, say around 2:30, I’d probably get a second (more like first) wind.

7. Clean out a closet. Any closet will do. What a sense of accomplishment!

8. Knit. This mostly can be put up with 1-6, but still, accomplishment.

9. Bake. Bread, cupcakes, cookies. Something loaded with carbs and/or sugar will be coming out of my kitchen, that, I can guarantee.

10. Projects, projects, projects, I have oh so many of them. Maybe it would be finishing my rehearsal dinner photo book from our wedding almost three years ago? Or maybe casseroles for the month. I would say weeding the garden, but since it’s a hypothetical snow day, it seems like gardening in snow, even the hypothetical kind, might be a little insane.

So, those are my top ten. Granted, they might be about 24 hours worth of activities, but let’s face it, I’m planning on more like a snow weekend. What do you like to do on an unexpected free day, snowy or not?

P.S. – So, I know I signed up for a Post a Week, and then promptly did not post anything for nearly three weeks. I blame it on extenuating circumstances – we moved remember? Pictures of that forthcoming, promise.
