Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption, by Laura Hillenbrand is another example of how our grandparent’s generation was tougher, more determined, and just all around cooler than ours. It tells the story of one amazing Louie Zamperini, a guy who was generally exceptional in everything he did, from stealing fresh-baked pies to breaking World Records in the 1936 Olympics.

In a life full of  exceptional stories, this book focuses on what might be the most extraordinary one of them all. Louie, like most men his age, gave up his dream (of winning gold at the 1940 Olympics, which were cancelled because of the war) and joined the Army Air Corps.
