Thankful (Or, what this blog was really supposed to be about)

29 Aug

Just a short note to put out there to the universe: No matter what crazy turns life takes, or how exhausting a week is, there’s nothing that makes me happier than turning the key to my sweet little bungalow and finding a hubby and a Hoffy inside…

Stay tuned… the gears they are a turning (slowly) and this little lady is picking up steam for her re-entry into the big ol’ world of blogging. For real this time.

A very special Easter Sunday Supper

1 May

Last Sunday was Easter, and so it was a very special Sunday Supper indeed! My parents were out all the way from Missouri, so we attempted to show them a good time, with varying degrees of success 🙂

#1533 is the Luckiest Number. Or How a Freshly Pressed Feature Tastes So Sweet.

10 Feb

Wow you guys – what a day! A Freshly Pressed feature and more than 1500 readers later, I am truly amazed. Thanks for all the wonderful comments, compliments and support. It didn’t take me too long to figure out how I was going to celebrate what is so far the best day in my (admittedly very short) blogging life – yep, you guessed it, again. With a drink. This is probably getting old, I know. BUT this drink has a very special ingredient in it: beets. I thought it was only fair, since they did most of the work today. So, without further ado, I give you The Freshly Pressed Cocktail:

Snowmaggedon? No, just a January veggie-lanche

6 Feb

More California goodness. Garden harvest in January! We planted container gardens at our old place wayyyyyy back in August. We finally have some gorgeous vegetable goodness, in the dead of winter. Carrots and beets, they’re small, but delicious! Can’t wait for the second (and cross your fingers for a third) round. Delish.

The harvest! Yes, only two beets, but if those weren’t the most delicious beets in the world … Continue reading

Thankful

4 Jan

This year’s resolutions were simple. After having so many 2010 resolutions that I had to categorize them (we needn’t discuss how far we got on those, correct?), I’ve simplified. I have just two. (I was shooting for one, but we can’t go too far, too fast, am I right?)

1. Be thankful for today. Life won’t be better IF I do this or WHEN this happens. Life is great now. Focusing on tomorrow simply means we lose sight of today. The Kirkster and I have been extremely lucky in life, and are making great strides to all the big goals in life. Now it’s time to put it on auto-pilot and just enjoy today. That’s my biggest 2011 Goal.

2. Love California. Hence the blog. We’re packing all the things we meant to do the last 7.5 years into one. It’s going to be a great one. I’m excited to share our finds (big and small)!

I plan on writing detailed posts about each of these planned activities, and of course, follow-ups once we do them. And we’ll always have more stuff that goes on the list, but here’s a partial list of all the things I’ve wanted to do in California, but just never have:

– Hike or Camp on Angel Island

– Go to Mt. Shasta

– Do a spa and hike at Pinnacles National Monument

– Spend the day in Rockridge/Elmwood

– Ride to the farmer’s market on our bikes. Spend the morning buying things to cook later in the day.

– Rent a beach house in SoCal.

– Spend a long weekend with friends on Tomales Bay.

– Pick fruit at a u-pick-em farm

– Spend  the day hiking in Muir Woods (never been. seriously. how has this happened?)

– Bike Napa. Sounds fun until someone gets drunk.

– Stay in a Yurt

There are a million more ideas out there, so I’m sure this list is just the beginning. What are your California greatest hits?
